The "Bloggies"

Let's tilt at a few blogospheric windmills, shall we?

It's time to nominate blogs for the 2007 Weblog Awards, affectionately known as the "Bloggies." There are lots of these sorts of things floating about, but the Bloggies are one of the oldest, if not the oldest--and, as the preamble to the nomination form notes, each March it has an actual award ceremony at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin. There's even (some) money for the winner!

We all read blogs we feel are well written and deserve wider recognition, so I'd like to encourage you to nominate them. Given the number of blogs out there, it's an honor just to make the final cut. But they can't receive accolades if we don't nominate them.

The nominations period ends January 10th. Best of luck to whomever you nominate.

Winners will be announced on January 22.

Hi, John.

Thanks for your visit over at my sketchblog Woolgathering and your kind words about its nomination for the "best-kept secret" category for the Bloggies.

I think it is a VERY well-kept secret, but who knows? The windmill is there...

Elizabeth,
You're most welcome--and thank you for visiting.

Elizabeth's comment spurs me to invite those so inclined to post their or their favorite blogs' URLs here so that others inclined to vote can consider nominating them as well.

I'm surprised this site isn't nominated yet (or Heaven Tree, another wonderful site)...

Rudy,
Thank you for visiting and for your kind words. I personally nominated Heaven Tree (I link to it under "Daily (B)reads" over in the right gutter) for a couple of different categories, as it is indeed a marvelous blog; as for my own blog, I know it has at least one nomination . . . ::sheepishly:: from me.

While I'm at it: one of the Webbies categories is best blog kept by someone under 19. I suspect most of us might scratch our heads as we think about candidates. For that category, I highly recommend you have a look at Sunshine State (the Diaryland format allows only one entry at a time on the page, so be sure to look through the archives). Francis is a senior in high school in southern Florida, and I'm consistently impressed with her elegant, precisely-observed writing and photography. She possesses a skill with language that puts the vast majority of her peers--or anyone's peers, for that matter--to shame.

Errrr, the name of Sunshine State's writer should read "Frances." Sorry about that.

Now at least two. (Though I'm not sure my nominations went through properly.)
