Would that it not come to this . . .

The concluding sentence of a student paper examining the arguments against spanking children:

The next time a consequence needs to be learned in my household it won't be through capital punishment.

After seeing the results of capital punishment in Aidan's case, we've decided to change our approach with Asher. True, he stole THREE cookies, but the punishment just didn't seem to fit the crime.

Someone needs to be nominated for next year's Nobel Peace Prize.

Hilarious. John, I want to sorry for not thanking you earlier for nominating me for "Indie Blog"!! I only JUST signed up with technorati (I am still not sure what it is), and only JUST saw the post! I was in the UK all summer with limited internet access so completely missed it. For someone who has now achieved "indie blogger" status, I seem to have quite limited knowledge of the blogosphere! Thanks for such an honor--it encourages me to start writing more in-depth posts again. I have been so busy/overloaded with teaching that I have kind of neglected it, using blog space more for music recommendations, etc. Anyway, thank you! I really enjoy your blog--it is definitely indie material! And I look forward to checking out the other bloggers that you recommend.
cheers,
Mary

Thanks to all of you for dropping by.

Ariel, I'm glad that, like my student, you've given some thought to capital punishment's efficacy where your second child is concerned.

Imani, thanks for visiting and commenting. To those of you reading this: If you're in the market for an elegantly-written book blog, you'll want to visit Imani's blog, The Books of My Numberless Dreams.

Mary, Thank you and You're welcome. Good to have you visiting here again.

A textbook case of unclear on the concept.

But, I dunno... maybe "capital punishment" should be allowed. Might weed out some future dregs of society, aid in population control on the planet, and give back to those who paid for it, possession of the TV remote control.
