School's out. Whatever shall I blog about?

Grades are in as of yesterday morning, and I basically goofed off the rest of the day. Time now to breathe some life back into good old Blog Meridian. It's important that I do this so as to retain my modest toe-hold in the blogosphere, you know. Quantity is all, quality be damned--that's my growing realization about this blogging thing.

So: while I figure out how best to take up a bit of Blogger's server space, let me send you on to this (via Andrew Sullivan) and just observe that I've now placed "structuring my procrastination" at the top of my own list.

You know how liberating it is to have a signifier for one's heretofore unnamed signified? You know, like "love" or "depression" or "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" (also known, he says sarcastically, as "adolescence")? "Structured Procrastination" is my new source of liberation.

Alternately (or, "in addition"), this recent article in The Atlantic (via J.D.) is worth a visit as well. Ignore the tone (about which I might have something to say in a future post), and the article conveys pretty well the disconnect between popular assumptions about what college is for and what college--even community college--in fact is. [UPDATE: Tangential to this discussion is a recent post by my friend and Wichita blogger Russell Arben Fox, "The Futurist Says . . . (The University Today, Part I)," a commentary on a thought-experiment his colleagues went through in which they were asked to envision their institution 15 years hence. Go and read.]

And finally: I've known about Yo La Tengo ever since their beginnings, but I've only recently begun listening in earnest. Call me hooked. Anyway, I know you've always wondered, "How'd they get their name?" Well. Now, you've got it, too.

I was hoping you'd catch The Atlantic article. While you were out, we had a bit of discussion regarding same at my place.

(I probably should've waited until your grades were in, but the EMBLOS made me post it.)

Cheers.

Yo la meridian... whatever...

Glad to see you survived to crawl back into the land of the talking dead... Your absence has been almost sorely noticed...
