A note for Kansas City-area folks

Caravaggio, John the Baptist. Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Image found here.

This is short notice, I realize, but I'll be at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City this Saturday with my Intro. to Humanities class. We'll be looking at paintings (we'll be there chiefly to see the pre-20th-century European and American collections), but you and yours are more than welcome to tag along.

We'll be meeting at the parking garage entrance to the museum around 10:00. You can't miss me: I'll be the one who doesn't look especially professorial.

I hope to see some of you there.

Unfortunately, we'll be on the Urban Home Tour this Saturday...otherwise it would be fun to join you. Are you planning on hanging around KC for awhile after?

Ariel,
Depends on the meaning of "awhile." I could be persuaded to meet for coffee somewhere in the afternoon. My e-mail and I are having issues just now, but I hope to have them worked out sometime tomorrow (Thursday).

Doc,
It'd be a distinct pleasure to meet the both of you. I hope it works out.

Almost all of my students say they'll be there--six or seven of them, plus some will bring folks as well. It should be a good time.

Hi John I just saw this. Would have loved to have said hello. But as it was this whole weekend was full from start to finish. Hope you had a great time. (this is whispered, I have yet to see the Block wing of the museum. Shameful on my part as I live little more than a couple miles away from it.) Perhaps next time? Be well and happy.

Rick,
Thanks for the note--it would have been a pleasure to meet you. I don't know when I'll next be up there, but it'll almost certainly be within the year.

I'll have a longer post on this, but I'll say here that a) you really need to see the new wing; and b) now that the American galleries are open, that part of the museum now has room to display about twice as many things as it had in the past.

Go and see.

Sorry we missed you: apparently 6 year olds need as much time as their mother to "get ready".

we didn't arrive until 11:00. scanned the halways, nooks, crannies and oddities, but, really - what were the odds?

after searching for you the 6 year old insisted we spend time in the Chinese room. i've no idea why and, when pressed, thegirls simple said 'they're lovely'. what? "everything."

there you have it.

Alas, Doc. At that time, I think we would have been in that gallery where the armor is. But: see above. I'll almost certainly be there again before the year is over--hopefully with the Mrs. in tow the next time.
