Happy birthday . . .
. . . to David Markson, born this day in 1927. The Wikipedia article is brief but does link to some interesting things. David Foster Wallace, who does know something about contemporary American fiction, thinks quite highly of Markson's Wittgenstein's Mistress. His admiration for Markson is intriguing to me, since it's difficult to think of two writers who are more different from each other, stylistically. They DO have a mutual love of arcane tidbits about famous people, though.
