More housekeeping . . .

Excuse the e-dust . . .

we're taking the plunge into the New Blogger template. Patience, please.

UPDATE: It'll get tweaked here and there in the future, and I don't (yet) know how to post the old banner on this new template, but I'm thinking this is pretty much the way I want it to look. The astute observer will note that I've rearranged some things and tightened up the appearance of the links lists. I'd appreciate any comments you might have, especially from those who use the links.

A most-sincere tip of the virtual hat to the good people at Hacksphere, who are responsible for the new hack for expandable posts that the new Blogger requires, and most especially for the "Recent Comments" display. I'm especially pleased to have this because, for whatever reason, I'm not receiving e-mail notification for comments. Even better: This hack displays comments posted anywhere on the blog, not just on the current page, and lists them in the order received, most recent first, as opposed to the order of the posts where the comments appear. I'm glad to have it; I hope my readers will find it useful as well.

I have always liked your color scheme. Very easy on the eyes. I do miss the header graphic and hope you discover the secret for putting it back. As for other details of how it is laid out and how it works, I, like most readers don't notice so much. It seems to be much more the blog owner that cares about such things that aid or inconvenience site usage and maintenance while remaining aesthetically pleasing to project the image you want to achieve.

That recent comments thing is handy, thanks for linking to it!

I notice that you're having the same problem I did with the line spacing going all crabbed whenever you use the blockquote tag. There's a fix for it here, which seems to work perfectly (also see the first comment).

Winston, thanks for the compliment on the banner. I want it back, too, so I'll keep fiddling.

Grobie, the Recent Comments hack is indeed grand. As for the fix you linked to, it doesn't seem to work for me--but then again, my template is different from that of the post, so that might have something to do with it. So, for the more recent posts I've been using his old strategy of typing in the "span style" solution he was using. It's a little time-consuming, but at least it works.
