Happy birthday, Ms. Holiday
Today is Billie Holiday's birthday. Even if all she were known for was "Strange Fruit," she's worth remembering: how much courage, after all, did it take for an African-American of either gender to sing a song in the 1930s about lynching? But, of course, she sang much, much more than that. And more even than that: I believe just about every note I've heard her sing.
I hope you'll take a listen to the songs in the site I've linked to, in case you've not heard or have forgotten her voice.
